Global Currents Conference

The name Robert Mathavious is synonymous with BVI Financial Services. Without his vision and leadership, the British Virgin Islands(BVI) would not have risen to be a leading jurisdiction in financial services. Because of Dr. Mathavious, the BVI is not only one of the largest corporate domiciles globally, but boasts an array of services in the corporate, legal, restructuring, accounting and related fields that is second to none. Because of Dr. Mathavious the BVI boasts a network of skilled professionals with deep technical knowledge and a very specialist financial services infrastructure that is respected globally.

According to the leading industry report, Vistra 2030, the BVI has “bucked the predicted decline of offshore” and has proven to be “extremely resilient” remaining near the top of global rankings of international finance centres over the last decade. The BVI’s “stability, expertise and ability to offer global reach accounts for its enduring stickiness.” Much of the credit for this enduring success must go to Robert Mathavious.

In December 2020, Dr. Mathavious bade farewell to the BVI Financial Services Commission, having seen it through from inception to maturity. The intention was to celebrate his rich legacy with a one-day Conference that would be forward-looking in the face of the many challenges that international financial centres including the BVI face. Due to the uncertainty of the Pandemic, it was decided to postpone this until a time when the many persons with whom Dr. Mathavious worked and interacted with across several time zones could meet in the BVI.

The Global Currents Conference is set to take place on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th November, 2021. The conference begins with a Gala event with a keynote address from Pascal Saint-Amans, and begins the following day with another notable keynote, followed by a wide array of presenters and panellists drawn from around the globe, including many of our own imminently qualified and experienced professionals. There is no better time to celebrate Dr. Mathavious, and also chart the way forward in international business and financial services.
