BVI International Arbitration Centre Announces NEW Arbitration Committee President

TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands (3 March 2023) –The British Virgin Islands International Arbitration Centre (BVI IAC) today announced the appointment of Dancia Penn OBE, KC as its new Arbitration Committee President. As the new Arbitration Committee President, Mrs. Penn will chair a 20-member Committee established under The BVI IAC Arbitration Rules, 2021 to ensure the application of The Rules.
Dancia Penn is a respected and experienced arbitrator, mediator, and senior practicing lawyer in the British Virgin Islands. Mrs.Penn is also a former Attorney General of the British Virgin Islands and has held various other senior positions in public life. Her extensive legal experience, in the Caribbean and beyond, encompasses contentious and non-contentious corporate, commercial and regulatory matters in a wide variety of areas. She has the unique distinction of having served in all three branches of Government and appearing in the Courts at all levels including The Privy Council.
Mrs. Penn regularly sits as Chair or Member of various arbitration and ad hoc tribunals and represents parties before them. She will continue to accept arbitral appointments in the British Virgin Islands and elsewhere, which are not being administered by the BVI IAC, as well as ad hoc arbitrations.
Following her appointment, the new Arbitration Committee President, Dancia Penn said, “I am delighted to accept the appointment as President of the BVI IAC Arbitration Committee at this very exciting time. There are several new and interesting initiatives planned for the BVI IAC and I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on the Arbitration Committee and the BVI IAC to carry out the important responsibilities.
In closing Mrs. Penn also highlighted that the Committee is made up of a diverse and experienced group of arbitrators who are very committed to working together to fulfil the mandate of the BVI IAC.
